#septemberskinchallenge Week 3

You guys must be getting used to this by now, so let’s get straight to it! It’s the September Skin Challenge Week 3!

Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram, here.

Day 15: Korean Skincare Products.

A lot of the products I use daily are Korean, however I thought that the most “Korean” product I could find are sleeping packs and sleeping masks. These are only recently popping up in western brands such as Origins and The Body Shop but are quickly becoming popular. Here I have the The Saem Fruit Punch Packs, which I’m yet to open and the cult favourite Laneige Water Sleeping Mask. These hit skin with that extra boost of moisture and wonderful ingredients whilst you sleep, waking you up with gorgeous skin.

Day 16: Hand Cream.

This is my all time favourite, the scent is amazing – what heaven must smell like and it’s super nourishing. I could literally smell this all day long! Loccitane Neroli and Orchid (it’s foreign as I got this tube from the airport when I was on holiday earlier this year).

Day 17:Toner.

Here I have Son&Park Beauty water. This is a multi purpose product which can be used as a cleanser, toner and exfoliator. Next to it I have Skin Watchers Refresh Flower Toner. Beautifully scented and the perfect PH level – I’m enjoying this a lot.

Day 18: Selfie.

Not much to say here haha! An old one too! Finished work late and looked rough haha! I really don’t do selfies 🙈

Day 19: New Discovery.

Though this isn’t new, and i may have had this sample in my draw for a few months now. It was only the other day that I tried this. It’s the Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream. I really like it! It’s moisturising enough for the daytime and helps depuff those newly awake eyes! I will probably purchase this when I need a new day eye cream.

Day 20: Sheet Mask.

I have a box full of sheet masks but these are my absolute favourite. They are the Skinfood Real Tea Hydrogel Masks. This one is in Rose. These contain real petals within the gel. They feel very luxurious and I use these when I need a real pick me up. The Rose one is my favourite!

Day 21: Lip Balm.

I literally have so many and I’m not picky about which one. This one however is the one by my bed at the moment. The tube is huge and it’s super long lasting on the lips it’s Papaya Gold Paw Paw with Manuka honey. A great find, multiple uses, it also does great on chapped and dry skin elsewhere!

See you Tuesday!

The Four Books That Changed My Life

Hello Lovlies,

I’ve been doing a lot of beauty and skincare related blog posts recently, so I thought that I would switch it up abit. I. A huge book reader, I’ve read hundreds – but out of all those books that I’ve delved into there are only four that I feel had an enormous impact on me.

Those books though different in story, all come down to the same emotions, anxiety, fear and love. These books changed my perspective on life, took me to a different world and of all things made me feel. Two of these books I relate to so much I got them tattooed.

Right so in no order, onto the books! I’m not doing reviews, these are just short descriptions of the books. I really want you to read them for yourself, without another persons opinions in mind.

The Time Travelers Wife – Audrey Niffenegger

The book that you will always remember. Nothing like the film!

Synopsis : “This is the extraordinary love story of Clare and Henry who met when Clare was six and Henry was thirty-six, and were married when Clare was twenty-two and Henry thirty. Impossible but true, because Henry suffers from a rare condition where his genetic clock periodically resets and he finds himself pulled suddenly into his past or future. In the face of this force they can neither prevent nor control, Henry and Clare’s struggle to lead normal lives is both intensely moving and entirely unforgettable.” – The Book Depository

This is probably the book I have read the most, it’s a book you think about for months after reading. It’s written in first person, through the eyes of our two main characters. It’s brutal, frustrating, bittersweet and absolutely beautiful. I cry every time I read it, my heart aches. As you progress through this book, yes it’s a long one, you begin to feel like you know these people almost to the point of being best friends. You know there fears, worries and dreams. I’ve never read a book similar to it. It says it’s a love story, but it’s far from soppy and so much more than that.

We Have Always Lived In The Castle – Shirley Jackson

A thriller with a hidden story

Synopsis : “Living in the Blackwood family home with only her sister Constance and her Uncle Julian for company, Merricat just wants to preserve their delicate way of life. But ever since Constance was acquitted of murdering the rest of the family, the world isn’t leaving the Blackwoods alone. And when Cousin Charles arrives, armed with overtures of friendship and a desperate need to get into the safe, Merricat must do everything in her power to protect the remaining family.” – Amazon

This is a strange little short read which spoke to me on a deeper level. Shirley Jackson wrote her pain into this book, she wrote her fear and worry. To me this is ultimately about isolation an anxiety. Two of the things I know on a personal level. Now I’m not saying that I’m a murderer who locked herself in her castle but I certainly took emotion from the feelings expressed in this book. If you like horror/thrillers it’s definatly worth a read. Her writing style is beautiful some sentences so gorgeous and innocent you can’t forget them.

Memoirs of a Geisha – Arthur Golden

The book that transports you to another world and leaves you breathless
Synopsis : “This story is a rare and utterly engaging experience. It tells the extraordinary story of a geisha -summoning up a quarter century from 1929 to the post-war years of Japan’s dramatic history, and opening a window into a half-hidden world of eroticism and enchantment, exploitation and degradation. A young peasant girl is sold as servant and apprentice to a renowned geisha house. She tells her story many years later from the Waldorf Astoria in New York. Her memoirs conjure up the perfection and the ugliness of life behind rice-paper screens, where young girls learn the arts of geisha – dancing and singing, how to wind the kimono, how to walk and pour tea, and how to beguile the land’s most powerful men.”

Let me start by staying that Arthur Golden paints a picture so vividly you could swear that you were there. Though the story is not 100% true to actual geisha it’s close. You grow up with this little peasant girl, you know her so well. She’s a strong female character a force to be reckoned with. This book is comical at times, it makes you laugh – but it also makes you grieve, feel anger and heartbreak. If you read only one of these books I couldn’t recommend this one more. It takes you to a dying world a disappearing way of life. It tells you her story In so much beautiful detail you feel like you’ve lived a geishas life yourself. I’ve read this book so many times and will do many more.

The Bell Jar – Sylvia Plath

The book who’s words are on my arm. The woman who inspires me most.

Synopsis : “When Esther Greenwood wins an internship on a New York fashion magazine in 1953, she is elated, believing she will finally realise her dream to become a writer. But in between the cocktail parties and piles of manuscripts, Esther’s life begins to slide out of control. She finds herself spiralling into serious depression as she grapples with difficult relationships and a society which refuses to take her aspirations seriously. Sylvia Plath’s only novel, was originally published in 1963 under the pseudonym Victoria Lucas. The novel is partially based on Plath’s own life and descent into mental illness, and has become a modern classic.”

Sylvia Plath is one of my biggest inspirations. Always. Before her death (sadly from suicide  aged 30) Sylvia forced her way into a male dominated role. She was honest raw and unapologetic. She had suffered with depression from a very early age and wrote about it truthfully, in a time when mental illness was taboo and completely misunderstood. This book mirrors Plaths Life for the most part and her writing style is engrossing. If this book does one thing, it makes you want to know more about this spectacular woman, you will want to read her poetry, admire her drawings and wish more than anything that she could have been saved.  The Tati I have in honour to her is my most simple. But the one I get asked about the most and the one I hold dearest. If you’ve ever felt not good enough, if you’ve ever struggled with mental health this book will speak to you. Empower you to fight?

“I took. Deep breath and listened to the old bray on my heart. I am, I am, I am.”

#septemberskinchallenge Week 2

Hello lovelies!

Im back with week two of the Instagram September Skin Challenge.

Still really enjoying this, and learning a lot about products and skin types!

So without further ado, onto week two!

Day 8: Facial Oil.

My almost empty facial oil is  Kiehls Midnight Recovery. This item has lasted me a really long time as if I use it too often it is too much for my skin and causes breakouts. I use it maybe 2 times a week max but it is a really lovely, fast absorbing oil. My mum swears by this product and it is a holy grail for her. It helped diminish her sun spots drastically- it’s what she loves it for the most!

Day 9: Most Expensive Item Purchased

As mentioned yesterday my Kiehls Midnight Recovery is almost finished and as also mentioned I really wanted to try Sunday Riley’s Luna! Well I got paid today, and I’ve brought it! I’m so excited for it to arrive, I’m hoping it’s worth my money and the hype!

Day 10: Skincare Innovation

My choice is Neogen Gauze Peeling Pads. I have them in the wine type. These are single use AHA chemical exfoliators. Gentle enough for sensitive skin I use these 2-3 times a week and believe me when I say, you see an instant difference! They have a rougher side which you use for physical exfoliating you then flip it over and use the softer side (pictured) to wipe away leftover impurities. The proof is on the pad!

TIP: using on you face hop in the shower and use it on dull elbows and knees! A all round miracle product!

Day 11: Night Moisturiser

Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream is targeted at those days when skin feels a little more irritated then others. When perhaps you have a breakout or dry or irritated skin from stress or weather. This is an overnight cream that you would use to calm that skin.

It is blue in colour but it doesn’t leave a tint on the skin and when you apply it feels like silk, beautiful! It has a cooling sensation and is very lightly scented. I also love how this product comes with a spoon to keep the container hygienic.

Day 12: Eye cream

My current go to is the Missha Misa Cho Bo Yang (what long name!)  eye cream. Containing ginseng and gold this eyecream feels lovely and I’m really enjoying it! Thick, quick absorbing and super nourishing.

Day 13: Empty

I had a few but this is the Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic Toner I finished earlier this month. I really liked this, but wasn’t a fan of the scent. As with the whole of the Liz Earle range it is very perfumed and I found it off putting. If you love Liz Earle your already expecting the scent.

Day 14: Cleanser

These are what I’m currently using – for oil cleanser I’m using Innisfee Apple Juicy Cleanser which I’m not overly enjoying, I just have ones I like more. It’s a nice product just not as effective as others I’ve tried. For my second cleanse I use Neogen Real Fresh Foam Cranberry. This creates the softest foam ever… I love it!
I hope your having a lovely day, wherever you are.

Six Favorite Lip Products

Hello Lovelies!

Today I thought I would do a post on my current favourite lipsticks. I guess you could say I’ve been loving a lot of pink this month!

There’s a mix of drugstore and high end in here and I really do love them all! So! On to the products!

1 : Etude House Color Pop in #05 Swing Pop.  This is a lip tint so is a sheer orange colour, it can however be builded up. It does not fully set like some tints so remains a little shiny and I love it. For girls with pale skins it really is a lovely colour. Long lasting too!

2: Clinique Chubby Stick Baby Tint in 03 Budding Blossom. This is probably my favourite. It’s so easy to wear and apply! It’s a very sheer blue toned pink and almost looks like stained glass on your lip. It really is just such a pretty colour, if your ever near a counter, check it out! Again – lovely for pale gals!

3: Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Pink in the Afternoon. Said to be.. Or an exact dupe for the lipstick Audrey Hepburn applies in Breakfast at Tiffanys this is a beautiful classic rosy pink. Also very easy to wear and really moisturising. You defiantly cannot go wrong with Revlon Lippies! Plus, being a huge Audrey Fan having a lipstick said to be used by her makes me feel super chic haha!

4: MAC Mehr. I’m not even sure what colour I would call this. Perhaps a browny based rose? Anyway it’s lovely! It’s very matte and wears well. I love this colour with goldy coloured eyes as it is quite a warm colour. If your at the counter, check it out as it is a lovely colour.

5: The Body Shop Lip & Cheek Stain in Red Pomegranate 003.  Again like the Etude House this is a lip Tint. It is sheer yet vibrant and dries fast! It also stays put once dried to the point it literally won’t budge all day. If applying to cheeks you need to work FAST! But it does leave a lovely light wash if you rush haha! Bargin of a price and a tiny bit goes a long long way! You’ll have it forever!

6: Nars Schiap. This is an amazing colour and best of all it’s super bright! It’s fashion house Schiaparelli Pink. It’s a blue toned almost neon red that looks gorgeous on pale skins. It’s a semi matte finish but non drying. This stuff lasts a long time too, retouching only needed if eating food. Ahh it’s glorious! Possibly my favorite? I’ve been wearing this all week non stop!

What are your favourite lip products of the moment?

Have a great sunny day.

#SeptemberSkinChallenge Week 1

Hello lovelies!
As mentioned last week in my previous post, I began the September skin challenge on Instagram (@terriandskincare) Heres a run down of the first week!

Day 1: Mask

Origins Drink Up 10 Minute Mask, £24. Containing apricot kernel extract and algae extract amongst a ton of others this mask helps plump and rehydrate thirsty skin within just 10 minutes Patted off with a cotton pad or tissue this doesn’t leave any sticky residue and helps create a smooth and plump appearance. Great for those rough mornings! I use this perhaps 1-2 times a week, mainly those early starts!

Day 2: budget friendly item.

Skinfood Black Sugar Mask Wash Off, I think i paid around £8 for this and it probably is one of my favorite products. Simple but effective this exfoliating mask can be tailored to how harsh you want it to be by just adding more or less water. Leave on for 10-15 minuets and skin is baby soft after. A cult favourite and you can see why!

Day 3: skincare/makeup hybrid.

I’m not going to go into this too much as I’ve raved about this a ridiculous amount already it’s the Dear Klairs Illuminating Supple BB Cream. Wrinkle care, brightening, moisturising and an SPF of 40, I love it, use it almost daily and have a backup!

Day 4: SPF.

Here I have the Innisfree Eco Safety Daily Sun block and Neogen Daylight Protection SPF. Both favourites of mine. Currently using up the Innisfree one. Non sticky and none irritating on my breakout prone skin.

Day 5: Wish list items.

Number 1 – my ultimate want is Sunday Riley Luna ( UPDATE: was my payday purchase and I can’t wait for it to arrive) I’ve heard so many amazing things. Number 2 is Keihls creamy eye treatment. Number 3 is Banila Co.  Mr. Honey cream ( I have this on the way) and number 4 is Laneige Lip Sleeping not mask as I’m really struggling with dry and sore lips at the moment.

Day 6: Serum.

This is The Body Shops Drops Of Light Serum. I’ve quite enjoyed this one. I haven’t noticed much of a difference in the overall brightness of my skin when using it, but my skin is always left nourished and comfortable feeling. Nearly finished this now!

Day 7: Most Repurchased Item.

For me this has to be The Bodyshop Camomile Silky Cleansing Oil. I have purchased so many of these over the years I don’t think I could count. Super super affordable and beautiful, mineral oil free, safe for sensitive skins and contact wearers! An all round winner!

Hope you enjoyed this! Remember to follow me on Instagram if you want to see the rest before I post it here!

Hope your all having a gorgeous evening!

The 10 Step Skincare Routine That WILL Transform Your Skin

I’m so proud of how my skin is now, I’m posting photos! No makeup!

It may seem daunting or even ridiculous at first, but a Korean inspired 10 step skincare regime will change your skin for the better.

Once broken down you quickly come to realise that it doesn’t take hours like you expect and it you don’t have to complete 10 steps everyday. It takes me around 15 minuets if I rush it, but it’s 15 minuets that will improve not only your skin but your confidence. In Korea, the skincare mantra is almost religious, As a child you are taught to look after and protect your skin. Beautiful skin is everywhere, both on men and women. In our western culture makeup makes you beautiful. It hides the imperfections we have, we can ignore them behind the cosmetics. In Korea skincare comes first. Base makeup is sheer, highlighting beautiful skin.
I got sucked into Korean skincare after becoming fed up of my awful skin a year ago. I was deeply unhappy with my dry, spotty and dull skin. I wanted to improve it – treat it better and prevent premature ageing. After looking into the 10 step system I felt it was well worth a go. A year down the line my skin has never been better and I can honestly say it’s down to this. Today I’m going to teach you the 10 step routine. I’m going to teach you how to save your skin.

Before we start I must state that you don’t need Korean products to do this, nor do you need to start with the 10 all at once. It’s better to slowly add an extra step then scare your skin into a breakout by applying new products all at once. Korean products however are often far more affordable and way more advanced than our western ones with better concentrations of good ingredients. You obviously need t  watch what your eating and drink a lot of water. Look after yourself you know? I purchase a lot of my Korean skincare off of Sokoglam . Cofounder of Soko Glam, Charlotte Cho also has a fabulous book called “The Little Book Of Skincare”  available here. This goes into greater details about the system and beneficial ingredients for all skin types. Now! Onto the system.

1. The makeup removal – Oil Cleanse

This step is aimed at removing all makeup from the skin in preparation for the rest of the steps. In this step I use an oil cleanser such as the Innisfree Juicy Apple Oil cleanser or The Body Shop Camomile oil Cleanser. After massaging into skin and washing off I use a q tip and eye makeup remover to get rid of stubborn mascara. Balm like oil cleansers can also be used such as the Banila Co Sherbert Cleansers or Clinique take the day off Balm.

2. Water based Cleanser

After that initial cleanse I then use a normal face wash such as Neogen real Fresh cleanser in cranberry. Use whatever you are currently liking. This is going remove leftover oil, and hidden makeup and help was the impurities from your skin. The double cleanse will make a significant improvement to your skin if you haven’t done it before. Your skin will thank you!

3. Exfoliate (1-2 times a week)

Once or twice a week I will exfoliate my skin, this gets rid of dead skin cells and allow your skin to better absorb the skincare ingredients we are applying. You can go for any type of exfoliation you like. For sensitive skins, chemical exfoliators are great as there are no sharp gritty scrubby bits to irritate your skin. My favourite chemical exfoliators are the Neogen Peeling pads (see here) these come in a number of scents each benefitting a different skin type. These are single use pads you simply wipe over skin and wash off. They contain a BHA acid which helps remove dead skin cells and improve troubled acne prone skin the proof is on the pad after using them! A favourite physical exfoliator of mine is the super affordable Skinfood Black Sugar Exfoliating mask you can tailor the granules to you skin creating gentler or harsher scrub.

4. Toner

Often forgotten, a toner is a vital step. This resets you skins PH level back to a healthy one. Often whilst cleansing we strip our skin of its natural balance, by toning our skin it takes our skin back to normal levels of 5-6 . Ever felt tight after cleansing or left your skin noticeably dry? That’s because it’s levels have been altered by the cleanser. Adding a toner will stop this happening! Simple but important! I’m currently using the Skin Watchers Fresh Flower Toner. This one has the perfect PH level ,asking my skin happy!

5. Essence

This step isn’t used often in western skincare however it is in the rise. The body shop now carries essences and I’m currently using their vitamin E one! Skinfood also do a number of essences such as the Premium Lettuce and Cucumber essence  which is also in my kit and I love it. An essence basically a extra hint of moisture, with added skincare benefits such as vitamins or minerals. This also makes the serums you apply next more powerful and effective.

6. Serums, Ampoules and Treatments.

This step is really where the tailoring is made. You can treat all your issues here.

Is your skin dull? Use a brightening serum such as The Bodyshop Drops of Light Serum

Is your skin dehydrated? How about using a hyaluronic acid ampoule such as the one by The Saem

Sun damaged? How about a vitamin C such as this one by Klairs ( if using a vitamin C serum, skip the Essence Step. It’s more effective on its own)

Acne Prone? Try the Cosrx BHA Power liquid– my holy grail.

Want to stop premature ageing or improve wrinkles? Why not try the much raved about Missha Time Revolution Night Ampoule

With ampoules and serums, layering makes them less effective, it is better to apply the serums to the affected areas. This means you can use multiple without diminishing effectiveness.

7. Sheet masks! The best part! ( as many times a week as you like! Me? Twice a week)

Sheet masks are HUGE in Korea and it’s slowly creeping into western skincare too! These are super affordable and highly effective. They are coated in super concentrated skincare ingredients. These again are to be tailored to your skins needs. Leave these on for around 20 minuets and upon removing you will be greeted with greatly improved skin! I collect sheet masks, I can’t help it, they are great!  My favourite being the Skin Food Tea hydrogel masks. My skin feels calm, plump and noticeably brighter. Try them! You won’t go back!

8. Nearly finished! Eye cream!

Use whatever you are currently using, I use Lush Cosmetics Enchanting Eye cream During the day and Missha Cho bo yang at night. This skin is super delicate! Look after it to prevent wrinkles!

9. Moisturise

Use whatever you currently like or are using. This locks in all the hard work you’ve just done! I’m currently using Lush Cosmetics Celestial, it’s my favourite. At night I use Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream. Once or twice a week I will use a sleeping pack. These are super hydrating mask that you wash off in the morning. My favourite being Laneige Water Sleeping Pack… a sleeping pack is optional but amazing for debydrated skins and winter time.

10. SPF

Yes, I know it’s boring, but if your not applying it on a daily basis their is no point putting all the time into your skin. It is the most harmful and damaging to you skin. Not using it is putting you at risk of cancer and is ageing you constantly. See those dark spots on your cheeks? That’s the sun! Can’t see sun spots on your skin but don’t use sunscreen? Wait a few years, they WILL appear. Just use SPF it is prevention, safety and cure! It’s not too late to improve and look after your skin. Just make sure it’s sooner rather than later. The minimum factor I use is an SPF of 35. My two favourites being the Innisfree Free Eco Safety and Neogen Day Light Protection
Wow! I know this was long, I hope it helped inform you and enticed you to give it a go. You skin a month from now after beginning this system will be so much better. Just remember it gets worse (the purge) before it gets better – better than ever!

I haven’t been paid or anything atall to do this post, it just really helped me better my skin and I hope it helps yours too.
If you are interested really look into getting Charlottes book.  It is a beginners bible and will help you on your Korean skincare journey!  For more info check out my other post I mentioned it in, here! ( I’ve put pictures of it in this one)

Please don’t be afraid to ask questions, I would love to help you guys understand anything your not sure about!

Happy skin!
